A Win That Means So Much More

When the couple received the life-changing phone call letting them know they’d won a luxury car, a dream holiday, gold bullion and a fuel voucher through MS Lotteries, they were in complete disbelief.

They had just started their road trip heading to Canberra, when they pulled to the side of the road to process their win. “We never ever thought we’d win, not in our wildest dreams,” said M, “We were only buying tickets to support MS, we never thought we’d win.”

The shock quickly turned into joy, but for this couple, who’ve been long-time MS Club members, the win is about more than just the incredible prize.

M lives with Multiple Sclerosis herself. Since her diagnosis, the couple has become deeply involved in supporting MS Queensland, and buying lottery tickets was always a simple way to give back to the cause that has touched their lives so personally.

“We’re so lucky,” M said, holding back tears. Living with MS, and knowing their own daughter-in-law and others close to them also live with it, makes the work MS Queensland does feel even more important to MK and M. M says “It’s a comfort to know that MS Queensland is there to support.”

For years, MK and M have supported MS Lotteries, knowing their contributions help fund essential research and services. They know that every little bit helps and when asked if they thought purchasing a lottery ticket was worth it, M said “I think, yes please go ahead and support it. It’s worth it because I, and everyone else, wants a cure for MS – that’s what we’re hoping for.”

With the holiday portion of their prize, the couple plans to enhance their travel experiences—staying closer to home, but adding a touch of luxury to their adventures.

And as for the new Mercedes-Benz? “We’re definitely going to show off the car,” MK laughed. “A few of our mates have already bought tickets for the next draw. I told them – it’s a 1 in 10,000 chance of winning. It’s value for money, the best raffle in Australia because of the odds and you really couldn’t find a better cause to support.”

Their message to others is simple: “It’s a very good cause, so purchase a ticket or donate outright. Whatever you can do to support MS and neurological conditions, every bit is worth it.”

To those living with MS, M offers this encouragement: “Everyday you do what you can. You work with what you have and stay positive, keep moving. Give everything a go.”
